MY ROLE

For this project, I worked as a solo designer and was responsible for research and design. I created a marketplace from scratch that focused solely on metaverse land and apartment NFTs. It was a challenging project that required a deep understanding of the metaverse ecosystem, blockchain technology, and user behavior.

DESIGN SYSTEM

Based on my research on color psychology, I suggested using a color palette that would give a calm experience with a mix of neon colors to give the marketplace a more futuristic/web3 style. Then I proceed to create a style guide for the project that included a color palette, fonts, icons, and reusable components. This guide serves as a reference for the development team to use when implementing the design. Since this project did not require complex interactive components, I did not use Storybook. Instead, I used Zeplin to create a more accessible and developer-friendly document. Tools used: - Figma - Zeplin

BRAND & LOGO

Using the color palette, I designed two logo alternatives, ultimately it was the first option the one selected for this project. The first option features capital letters and highlights the words 'Meta' and 'Hub' in different colors to encourage the end user to think of it as the 'hub of the metaverse'

CHALLENGES

As a designer, this project presented a new challenge for me since I had never worked with NFT marketplaces before. I conducted a competitor analysis study of all the NFT marketplaces to get a better understanding of what was already out there. Since this was one of the first metaverse NFT marketplaces, there was a lot of uncertainty about what it should look like, what features it should have, and what sign-on options it should offer - either web3 wallets or web2 sign-in authorizations. One of the challenges I faced was understanding who our end-users were and what motivated them to use the product since this project did not have a waiting list, and randomly contacting users can be challenging due to the high number of scams in the web3 world. However, I was able to connect with potential users through Discord groups and conduct interviews to gain insights into their needs and pain points.

PROCESS

The process began with an initial user research of all NFT marketplaces and then niching down to the ones that offered metaverse NFTs. From there, I studied the OpenSea and Rarible APIs, as those would be the ones being used by the developers. I took notes of what elements we could fetch from their API, designed a sitemap on the different pages we would be using, made a list of the current NFTs listed on those platforms using Airtable, and started making sketches on the designs. With the sketches and functionality in place, I proceeded to design the specific pages in accordance with the pre-established design system guidelines.

END RESULT

The end result of this project is an app that separates land NFTs and apartment NFTs on different chains, featuring a similar look and feel to other widely-used NFT marketplaces. This approach makes it easy for users to navigate while also providing more information about each project on its dedicated trading page. Additionally, the platform includes a list of metaverse NFTs with activity and price statistics, enabling users to stay informed about market trends. Each individual NFT page displays blockchain and API data, and a cart option similar to that seen on web2 e-commerce sites.
